I enjoy the sculptural possibilities millinery materials offer. I work with natural straw cloth and fine felt. My straw cloth is spun and woven from the fibers of the banana plant or from a mix of pineapple fiber and silk. It is hand dyed then shaped by sculpting, folding or draping, allowing the natural movement of the fabric to form the hats shape. Designed be worn alone as a headdress or as a topper on my traveler hat. My parisisal straw traveler hats are blocked and shaped to fold flat for easy traveling.
Felts are made densely felted wool or fur with a rich velour finish. Felts are steamed until soft and then hand blocked using my collection of vintage hat blocks, unique found items, blocks I have designed or they are gently shaped and cut by hand. Embellishments are artist made and include cut felt,glass beads, folded ribbons, hand rolled flowers and leaves. Every hat is made one at a time with full attention to details.
