The inspiration for my work is taken from "Chi," which is defined as life force, the flow of energy that sustains life. The work reflects the natural rhythms and peculiarities of botanicals while evoking an importance of balance and calmness in ones life.
My process is basically a layering of under paintings made up of simple graphic elements by applying/removing house paint, graphite, shellac based inks and acrylic washes to handmade wooden panels. The merging of foreground to background creates a cohesive work that lives somewhere between realism and surrealism, tangible and spiritual. While working on multiple pieces at a time, I am able to move from one work to another...when a piece begins to agitate or trouble me, I find comfort and calmness in another. This helps me maintain not only balance but interest.
