Description:
I begin with a sketch of a live or preserved botanical specimen, bird or insect on drawing paper. Next I trace the sketch then spray the backside of the tracing paper with graphite transfer spray and transfer the image onto antique paper or an old book page that has been treated with deacidification spray, torn, distressed with artist's tape and stained with walnut extract. I lay down an underpainting with Golden fluid acrylics mixed with retarder and/or flow release mediums then layer Albrecht Durer colored pencils and Neocolor II artist crayons on top. The finished work is sprayed with a UV satin varnish, mounted on museum board, matted and framed.
