Description:
I build up oil pastel color on a gessoed wooden panel, usually blending the material and sometimes allowing the darker underlying surface to show through. After the oil pastel settles, I varnish the surface. Although no paint is used, the end result has the feeling of a painting. Because there is no glass covering the panels, the color appears rich with full intensity.
