Emerging ArtistsDescription:
I create limited edition linoleum block prints, primarily of the natural world. With the simple use of contrast, minimal color, and line manipulation, I strive to create compelling works of art inspired by places I have been. Currently, I'm dedicated to exploring the endless possibilities of printmaking and creating original, introspective prints in the hopes that it will speak beyond the frame, fostering a healthier relationship between humans and nature.
The process of translating my relationship with a particular location into a print involves reversing the image from my sketches onto the linoleum block, then carving away the areas that are to show 'white', leaving the uncarved surface to show the ink. My work is printed primarily in black, oil-based ink. Occasionally I make use of simple color gradients to gently alter the mood. After I am finished carving the block, I use a brayer to ink the surface, then it is carefully impressed into dampened cotton paper using a press.
